And we all know him, but as he was, I will read a little bit of his in Choke County Executive Mark out Ridge is in the second term at the Montgomery County Executive. He previously served three times on the Montgomery County Council as an at large member, first

For seventeen years, he was a teacher at Rolling Terrace Elementary School in Tekoma Park. Perhaps that's why he is so humble, easy to reach, and I always think he's guidance. As a matter of fact, last week I was standing here and asking his council on different matters. County Executive court Ridge has focused on overarching vision pubmic markam County a more equitable and inclusive place to live and work. He is skillfully addressed the recent pandemic and the many consequences of businesses and residents and workers. Recently, among many other initiatives, he began and re imagining public Safety task Force with diverse community members. We are proud to call him our county executive and have him as our friend. Let's welcome County Executive Mark pel Ridge and looked like to many many days and years of working together. So is everybody enjoying the tropical setting we have prepared for tonight. This is quite accidental, I assure you. It's not so easy to turn on the air conditioning and turn off air conditioning in a building like this. And who was expecting the summer today? I was expecting summer today. So I want to thank you all for inviting me here to talk. I've been working with your

31:02 community for a long time and I say you do amazing work in this community. I want to acknowledge the earlier mentioned of the people who were lost and to Fail Hmad, doctor Rahman and Faisal Khan's wife. But I just want to call you know kind of a special attention to the role that to Fail played and the role that doctor Rockman played. To Fail, I think, as many of you know, Ranford County Council and the same year I ran and at one to Fail did not prevail, but to vail and I that we were both running for four seats, actually wound up talking about each other when we were in these debates. We were not arguing. We're like, we agree with each other. And but what failed that he was the first Muslim to step forward into the community and take a political stance and to fail.

He understood that the way to gain acceptance in a society that is not always as welcoming as it should be is to stand up and say who you are and who we are, and to call on us to come together as a communicate. And that's what to Fail did. And his loss is certainly a major loss in this community. And I was like, doctor Rachman did the same thing. He didn't run for office, but he ensured that there was political engagement, that the Muslim community was aware of the issues that were in Montgomery County. And he was a powerful voice for justice. And I still remember the conversations I had with him as he probed to understand better things that he didn't know but he wanted to know.

32:46 And I appreciate the ability of somebody to not be certain about everything, but to be able to try to learn from who's around them. And I thought, you know, we've had great Muslim leaders here and brought us to a much better place. I believe every time I think you know people here from my office, Yen is our Asian liaison, Aba Elberai is with Muslim community, and k Chance is our faithfully as on. So we have three important people who make a point of being making sure that your community is engaged with everybody else in Montgomery County. And I think you and I appreciate over the years that when one community was attacked, the ability of all communities to come together. And I would say it's one remarkable thing about this country on a good day, except for some people, is the ability of everybody to recognize the common humanity of everybody else. And you'd be engaged in a project to try to build a society in which everybody has a place, that everybody is recognized for the value and the worth they bring to the table, and that we can all work with each other. And your community has certainly been exemplary and that I thank you for your health clinics and to remind people all

34:17 the time that your health clinics serve more non Muslims than Muslims. And it's another example of a contribution to the entirety of the Montgomery County community. And I think it's important that everybody in the county understand the role that you all have played here. I'm happy to be here to celebrate Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarik. I'm sure this is, you know, really significant holiday and it's nice to be sharing food together and to share conversations with each other there. And I've always look forward. It's important that you all see us out in the community, that you just don't come to us, but that we also come to you. And I wanted you to know that I take this seriously and I understand the importance of everybody feeling respected and included in this community. I don't want to thank this community for helping us get through the worst of COVID. I'm not going to say COVID is over. I got Timothy friends who are still getting COVID, so it's clearly not over.

35:39 But the worst of it seems to a pastor. Now, I stood with you in Gaithersburg giving out food to people who needed food. I've been in your clinics. I've seen the work you've done on first when we are trying to get people tested so we could figure out who had of it, and then when we're giving out vaccines, and you've played a continual role in making sure that this county got through COVID as well as we did. And we wouldn't have succeeded if it hadn't been for people in this community. How every community did what we did. So I appreciate everything you've done from a Germy county, all the work you do to make this an inclusive and welcoming place that I want to assure you, and I know I speak for everybody on the Council and in county government, that all of us are committed to building the community where we all see each other and as part of a common thread, engaged in a common pursuit of building a better society and making sure that everybody has a place and a role in that society. It's about introspection, it's about mindfulness, it's about humility, and I think that is what all of us bring and all of us need to be mindful of as we do work with our neighbors and create this community that is loving and compassionate and caring. And so as we continue celebrating the holy month, as we celebrate Eastern Passover, we have to keep those feelings and motivations close to us because we have to be good neighbors. And as we celebrate our beautiful diversity. All one point one million people here in Montgomery County, recognizing that the four of the ten most diverse communities in the entire country are here in Montgomery County. It is why we all choose to live here, to be good neighbors, to care for others, and to be compassionate in our work. And I just want you all to know that the Council will continue being good partners with each and every one of you. We will continue being compassionate, not only in our policies, but in our budgets as well. And we're about to embark on that converse station, a six point eight billion dollars budget that is full of compassion.
